Matthew’s Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides scholarships for individuals that are transitioning to a recovery house after inpatient treatment. We understand the importance of that crucial time period in early sobriety and are committed to making safe, secure sober living more accessible.

Matthew’s Mission started from the heartbreak of a family that lost a son and brother to the disease of addiction. Unfortunately, we are losing hundreds of thousands of individuals because of this disease. It is especially tragic because it could be prevented with the right treatment plan and follow through.
But the Vandergeest family decided to do something with their grief, and that is how Matthew’s Mission was created. Our purpose is to give as many people as possible the best opportunity to achieve long-term sobriety. We believe that when an individual is leaving inpatient treatment is when they are most vulnerable. That is why our mission is to provide scholarships to those that are unable to pay for a sober house upfront.
Your generosity has the power to transform lives and offer a beacon of hope to individuals embarking on their journey to recovery. By choosing to donate to our mission, you’re not just giving funds; you’re saving lives, providing stable recovery housing, and ensuring that every person just starting their sobriety has the support they need to succeed. Every contribution, big or small, helps us extend our outreach, enhance our programs, and create a nurturing environment for healing and growth. Join us in making a difference today, and be a part of someone’s story of hope and renewal. Your donation is more than a gift—it’s a lifeline.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that recovery is possible for everyone, regardless of their past struggles with substance use disorder. We are dedicated to providing a solid foundation for those at the very start of their sobriety journey, offering scholarships for stable recovery housing, compassionate outreach, and comprehensive support services. By focusing on the individual needs of each person we serve, we aim to provide the opportunity to live in an environment where healing can flourish and new beginnings are embraced. We believe that as long as someone is breathing there is hope. And our goal is to help our clients in the most dangerous part of their recovery, the first months when they leave inpatient treatment.
Your donation matters immensely because it directly contributes to the foundation of support and recovery for individuals grappling with the challenges of early sobriety. Each contribution helps us sustain and expand the amount of people we can scholarship into recovery housing, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for those in the early stages of their journey. Beyond the walls of those houses, your generosity fuels our outreach efforts and educational programs, spreading awareness and understanding, while combating the stigma associated with substance use disorder. In essence, your support not only changes individual lives but also fosters a more compassionate and informed society. Every dollar you donate is an investment in hope, healing, and the promise of a brighter future for many.

Sober living is important because the first days/weeks/months someone gets out of treatment are when they are most vulnerable. Once they leave the bubble of treatment, the life they were running from is there waiting for them. We believe that stable housing and supportive community makes the chances of long-term sobriety much higher.
The short answer is that it varies. Most recovery houses charge by the week and offer different amenities and services. It is important to do your research and talk to people that are familiar with the reputable houses. But typically, it is about $165-$250 a week for a sober living home. Most treatment centers will discharge a patient with a recovery plan that includes PHP, IOP, or OP (different levels of care). So while most recovery houses do not offer treatment, they do mandate that their clients follow the medical advice of their treatment center.
We deeply appreciate every donation, big or small, recognizing that each contribution plays a vital role in empowering lives and sustaining our mission of hope and recovery.
